FRANKFORT — The Kentucky OSHA Journal has been sold to a Frankfort businessman who plans to maintain its previous owners’ dedication to its role as the state’s leading and most trusted voice in workplace safety.
The Journal, a digital news product, was founded in 1997 by Lowell Reese, who was the editor and publisher of The Kentucky Gazette at the time. Reese believed that providing businesses and industry with expert advice and easy access to information about shared challenges could save them money and create better, safer work environments.
“Leo has worked with The Kentucky Gazette for over a year now to help improve our digital presence and marketing, and I know he will do great things with Kentucky OSHA Journal,” said Laura Cullen Glasscock, who took over The Kentucky Gazette in 2007 and later became publisher of the Journal.
Haggerty bought the business in September and plans to run it under his TCHQ Communications banner. Haggerty has 25-plus years of media and business management experience that includes work with such Fortune 500 companies as Thorn EMI and The Musicland Group. He also has state government experience, working in the offices of former Gov. Steve Beshear and former Treasurer Todd Hollenbach. He is a certified crisis manager and has helped businesses and non-profits, large and small, prepare for and handle all manner of crises.
“I see the Kentucky OSHA Journal as a natural extension of the crisis management work we have been doing,” Haggerty said. “I really respect the work that Lowell and Laura have done. They’ve set the bar high, and we look forward to building on that.”
He also said he’s proud of the team of experts who write for Kentucky OSHA Journal. Haggerty has laid out an aggressive plan for the Kentucky OSHA Journal’s growth over the next 12 to 24 months. In addition to launching a website and Facebook and Twitter accounts, sponsor events and add more products and services to help businesses provide a safe, healthful workplace.
